For your final paper, you will choose one of your assignments from the term and develop your argument into a research paper. While you may use constituents from the abstracts that you have developed within the final paper, you may not copy and paste your abstracts into the final paper to serve as your introduction, for example. Besides whichever course texts you choose to include, both fictional and critical, you must engage with three peer-reviewed critical sources for your paper. Essays should be 8-10 pages in length, size 12 font, double-spaced, and follow MLA formatting including in-text citations of sources and a bibliography for both in-class texts and those you find in your own research.

ASSIGNMENT #1
In a paragraph or two, come up with a brief argument engaging the following question about Camus’s The Stranger using support (in the form of quotations or summaries of scenes) from the novel:

Why did Meursault fire the final four shots into the already dead/dying Arab?

Meursault fire the final four shots into the already dead Arab because he had suppressed emotions especially from his mother’s funeral. This can be supported by many things. When Meursault is dealing with the confusing emotions of his mother’s death, he falls asleep which is sign of hiding emotions. Also, suppressed emotions can lead to outbursts of anger. If he had properly addressed his emotions, he would have never returned to shoot the Arab four more times and the four shots were one of the key reasons why he was caught and convicted. If he had never returned to fire the four shots, people may not have heard the shots and the crime may never have been reported. Also, the four shots proved that this wasn’t self-defense. When Meursault killed the Arab, he was in a situation that he had never been in before, he just murdered an innocent person
