equipment. During his absence from work John developed an alcohol dependency in addition to
occasional use of an illicit drug. The company he works for does not have a written policy on
‘intoxicants’ in the workplace nor does it provide health surveillance for John and his co-workers
in ‘safety critical roles’ in the company.
