Scoring instructions for BOTH scales

Self-deception scale: reversed items are: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20

Impression management: reversed items are: 21, 23, 25, 27, 29, 31, 33, 35, 37, 39

To recode an item (called ‘reverse scoring’) change your scores to their opposite on the scale: 1 = 7, 2 = 6, 3 = 5, 5 = 3, 6 = 2, 7 = 1

Self-deception concerns items 1-20; Impression management concerns items 21-40. Once you’ve reversed the appropriate items, then add up your scores for all 20 items on EACH scale and divide that number by 20 (i.e., the number of items on each scale). This number, which is an arithmetic average, represents the score for that scale.

YOUR SCORES:

Self-Deception: _____________

Impression-Management: _____________
