Evidence based change projects | genius home works

Evidence based change projects are initiated in an attempt to be proactive in guiding health care decisions and improving the quality of health care. This new knowledge can have a significantly positive impact on patient care if successful. For this reason, in order to implement evidence-based practice it is important for nurse to comprehend and be able to interpret research. This is where statistical significance and clinical significance comes in. Statistical significance is established by an analysis conducted by researchers. Statistically significant difference means an association or difference exists between the variables that weren’t caused solely by normal variation or chance (Heavey, 2015). This is ruled by the p-value and confidence intervals and is when we find a difference where p <0.05 (Leyva de los Rios, 2017). This is significant to my research for many of my articles were based on small sample size and this can affect the ability to find an accurate statistical significant difference.

A clinically significant difference means the researchers found a statistically significant difference that experts in the field believe is substantial enough to be clinically important and thus should direct the course of patient care (Leyva de los Rios, 2017). Statically significance must be established before clinical significant can be determined. Often times a statically significant difference will also be clinically significant, but a statically significant difference is not always deemed clinically significant. Clinical significance is the practical importance of the treatment effect, whether it has a real, palpable, noticeable effect on daily life (Leyva de los Rios). This can be established by experts in the field this may be the same researchers, who decide if a statistically significant difference is clinically important. Additionally, results can be statistically significant and clinically important, not statistically significant, but clinically important and statistically significant but not clinically important.

Breastfeeding provides unmatched health benefits for babies and mothers. It is the clinical gold standard for infant feeding and nutrition, with breast milk uniquely tailored to meet the health needs of a growing baby. Medical professional organizations have long been researching the importance of breast milk and it high yet versatile characteristics to provide various benefits to both infants and mothers. These are both statistically and clinically important. All the research which has been conducted for years can be used to back up my project.

Not all EBP projects result in statistically significant results. Define clinical significance, and explain the difference between clinical and statistical significance. How can you use clinical significance to support positive outcomes in your project?

Written Capstone Change Project | genius home works

Evidence based practice is often described as a process consisting of distinct activities including, formulating questions, searching for information, compiling the appraised information, implementing evidence, and evaluating the resulting practice (Boström, et al., 2013). My evidence-based project is based on providing mothers with breastfeeding support from the nursing staff to encourage exclusive breastfeeding for the first six month of their newborn’s life. To do this we are focusing on the support given and collecting information on how long the mothers remain breastfeeding their infant. During this process breastfeeding support and resources will be available. The evaluation process of this project looks at the dependent and independent variables.

Collecting the variables will enable the proponents of the research to make sense of the data that is collected during the project. This is because there is usually a relationship between the independent and the dependent variable. It is this relationship that may provide an answer to the success or failure of my breastfeeding project. A dependent variable is what happens as a result of an independent variable, while the independent variable stands alone and is not changed by other variables (University of Southern California, 2022). My independent variable would be breastfeeding support, for this will be provided to all mothers. My dependent variable would be length of breastfeeding for this can changed based on the support offered. Breastfeeding is a variable that stands alone and is not changed by the length of adherence to breastfeeding, while adherence to breastfeeding does depend on the support provided, hence this is the dependent variable.

Breastfeeding support (Independent variable) can change length of breastfeeding (dependent variable) but

Length of breastfeeding (dependent variable) can not change breastfeeding support (Independent variable)

Based on how you will evaluate your EBP project, which independent and dependent variables do you need to collect? Why?
