DISSERTATION TOPIC: Factors Influencing Individuals Utilization of Mental Health Services in South Texas.

Assessment Description

The research prospectus is an expansion of your 10 Strategic Points and will serve as the framework for your dissertation proposal. It is considered the foundational document for your dissertation. The research prospectus will also assist your dissertation chair in providing valuable feedback to guide you in your dissertation. This assignment is the next step toward completing that process.

General Requirements:

Use the following information to ensure successful completion of the assignment:

• Locate the most current version of the Prospectus PowerPoint (ATTACHED).
• Doctoral learners are required to use APA style for their writing assignments.
• Refer to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association for specific guidelines      related to doctoral-level writing. The manual contains essential information on manuscript structure and content, clear and concise writing, and academic grammar and usage.
• This assignment requires that at least 3 additional scholarly research sources related to this topic, and at least 2 in-text citation from each source be included.
• You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite.

Directions:

Using the Prospectus PowerPoint template, located on the Dissertation Templates page in the DC Network, transfer and expand the information from your 10 Strategic Points document into the slides following the instructions on the first slide. Note that subsequent slides have additional instruction details.

Obtain both living will and a power of attorney for healthcare documents from your place of work, the Internet, or other source.

• Complete both documents, including obtaining witness signature. (If a notary public is required by your State law, locate one and record the location and cost of service. You do not need to actually have it notarized for this course.) Texas does not require them to be notarized. (Upload copies of the paperwork under the appropriate assignment)
• Discuss your advance directives with the person you would like to make healthcare decisions for you. If you have no one, discuss with a classmate or coworker.
• Include a citation to the site where you retrieved your advance directive (if you obtained it online) or from your reading on advance directives. It does NOT have to be in APA format. Just explain where you obtained the form
• For the discussion:
  • How difficult was it to find these forms?
  • Do you feel they are important for an older adult to have?
  • Would an older adult need help finding them? completing them?
  • Has this assignment made you change your opinion regarding advance directives?

MODULE 2

Assessment Description

One of the first steps to justifying your dissertation topic is to identify literature relevant for justification of the problem space. Based on the literature you have reviewed to date, identify 3-5 articles relevant to the justification of your proposed problem space. For each, concisely discuss how the article supports your overall potential problem space based on what has been discovered and what still needs to be understood related to your topic. Include in-text citations and APA-formatted references for each article. What did you find most challenging in identifying the relevant articles? What recommendations would you offer to your classmates to make the selection process more efficient? Explain.

Using the 3-5 articles identified and discussed in DQ1, synthesize an argument for the problem space of your proposed topic in 5-6 sentences. What is the overall problem? What has been discovered about the problem? What still needs to be understood (the problem space)? How will your proposed topic contribute to the problem space? Include citations and references.

Identify the background of the problem for your proposed topic in 3-5 bullets (with citations) by describing how the problem has evolved historically into its current form. Include when and how the problem emerged, how the problem changed over time, and what the problem currently looks like based on recent literature. Incorporate the articles identified in in the Module 2 discussion questions.

Address the theoretical foundation for your proposed topic. What are the theories, models, or concepts used to conceptualize and measure your variables (quantitative) or phenomena (qualitative)? The problem statement is a single sentence used to state what is not known in the literature. Give the problem statement for your proposed topic and identify the scope of the problem. What might happen if the problem is not addressed? How will your research potentially contribute to a solution?

A second draft of your prospectus is due at the end of Topic 5. You should be working on revisions based on instructor feedback received for your initial submission. Using the objectives and slide requirements in the notes sections for each slide in the prospectus PowerPoint template, conduct a self-evaluation of the work you have completed on your prospectus so far. Do you believe your study components are properly aligned? Provide a brief rationale for your assessment.
