1. Conduct independent research

Conduct independent research

As you discussed in this unit’s Discussion Board, survey research is one of the most common ways of collecting data. However, not all survey research is created equal. In this activity, your task is to collect at least 5 different examples of surveys used by local police agencies. Using these examples, write a 4-page report comparing the different examples. In your report, provide at least 5 examples associated with best practices or examples that you believe could be improved. Supply a ranking of the different surveys, and show your favorite and least favorite survey, again supplying an explanation.

The specific steps are as follows:

  1. Conduct independent research, and find at least 5 different examples of surveys used by local police agencies.
  2. Compare each of the surveys, finding your favorite and least favorite survey.
    • Supply at least a 1-page explanation on your selections.
  3. Using your research examples, find at least 5 examples of best practices or areas that could be improved.
    • Dedicate at least 3 pages to this section.

1. Understanding risk discussion

This discussion has 2 parts: Understanding risk discussion

  1. Understanding risk:
    • Part A: Stock A has a standard deviation of 10% and an expected return of 8%. Stock B has a standard deviation of 15% and an expected return of 11%. A client wants to know which stock has a better risk-return profile. How would you answer her?
    • Part B: Stock C has a standard deviation of 20% and a beta of 1.20. Stock D has a standard deviation of 16% and a beta of 1.44. A client wants to know which stock is riskier. How would you answer her?
  2. The material in Chapter 8 of the required text clearly illustrates that there are tangible benefits for individual investors that diversify their portfolios. It makes sense then too for corporations do diversify their product or service portfolios. Or does it? Be sure to read the supplemental readings related to corporate diversification and offer your views on whether corporate diversification is beneficial for the owners (i.e., the shareholders) of the corporation.

The textile industry in the United States

The textile industry in the United States has moved much of its operations offshore in an effort to decrease labor costs. Over the past 50 years textile imports have risen from 2% of all textile production to over 70%. Offshore manufacturers ship apparel items in container ships requiring significant time between original order and delivery. As a result, retail customers must accurately forecast market demands for imported apparel items.  Assuming your company requires a just-in-time strategy, how would you handle the low-cost imports?

1. The role of a leader within a team

175 words:

  • What do you feel is the role of a leader within a team? Include examples of leadership you have experienced when working on teams.
  • You might have experience making decisions and solving problems on your own, but these tasks are quite different when working in a team. What would you need to consider when leading a team in making decisions and solving problems?
  • How can you apply what you learned in this class when faced with a problem or conflict in a team setting?

The three branches of government.

ASSIGNMENT 1

Originally the United States Supreme Court was conceived to be the weakest of the three branches of government. Owing to Marbury v. Madison and the power of judicial review, it has evolved into a very powerful policy making body. Some in America today lament this. They believe that, because the members of the court are not elected, the court should not have so much say over what the laws should be. Remember, as Pro-Life and Pro-Choice activists continually remind us, the right to an abortion was created by the case of Roe v. Wade in 1973, and the right to an abortion was taken away by the court in 2022. Congress has never passed a law making abortion legal.

What do you think? Is the court too powerful relative to the elected branches of government that represent the people?

ASSIGMENT 3

LAB 9 PART A

WATCH VIDEO AND ANSWER QUESTIONS

  1. Define “mutation.”
  2. Is the following statement true or false? Justify your answer in 1-2 sentences: “Mutations are caused by selective pressure in the environment.”
  3. Why did the dark colored mice living on dark lava flows have white underbellies?
  4. Is the following statement true or false? Justify your answer in one or two sentences: “The same mutation could be advantageous in some environments but deleterious in others.”
  5. Is the following statement true or false? Justify your answer in one or two sentences: “The appearance of dark colored volcanic rock caused the mutation for black fur to appear in the rock pocket mouse population.”
  6. Explain how the environment plays a role in changing the frequency of an allele.
  7. As you saw in the film, rock pocket mice evolved to have dark-colored fur in certain habitats. In three to five sentences, explain how this trait increased in frequency in the population. Include the following key terms: “fitness” (or “fit”), “survival” (or “survive”), “selection” (or “selective”), and “evolution” (or “evolve”).
  8. Near the end of the video Dr. Nachman collected and compared dark mice from two different lava flows. Explain how this comparison demonstrated that mutations are random, but natural selection is not.
  9. Imagine a scenario where the rock pocket mice living on a lava flow become physically isolated from those living on the desert sand by a river or a canyon. This would mean there are two geographically separate populations with no gene flow Links to an external site.between the two. What would happen to these two populations after a long period of time?
  10. Did the individual mice evolve? Explain.

Impact of foreign exchange

Overview Impact of foreign exchange

Foreign exchange impacts the profitability of transactions in international markets. It can turn a profitable business into one that loses money and can turn an unprofitable business into one that makes money.

In this assignment, you will analyze the impact of foreign exchange on different business scenarios and present your findings in a short business memo.

Scenario

You manage the international business for a manufacturing company. You are responsible for the overall profitability of your business unit. Your company ships your products to Malaysia. The retail stores that buy your products there pay you in their local currency, the Malaysian ringgit (MYR). All sales for the first quarter are paid on April 1st and use the exchange rate at the close of business on April 1st or the first business day after April 1st if it falls on a Saturday or Sunday. The company has sales contracts with different vendors that determine the number of units sold well in advance. The company is contractually obligated to sell 4,000 units for exactly 1.25 million MYR for the first quarter. The break-even point for each unit is $90 in U.S. dollars. Use the following foreign exchange rates:

On January 1, the daily spot rate is 3.13 MYR, and the forward rate is 0.317 U.S. dollars/MYR for April 1st of the same year.

On April 1, the daily spot rate is 3.52 MYR.

Prompt

Using the information above, create a short business memo that explains the profitability, viability, and importance of considering foreign exchange on the basis of the scenarios below.

Scenario 1: The company uses the spot rate on April 1st to convert its sales revenue in MYR to U.S. dollars.

Scenario 2: On January 1st, the company uses that day’s forward rate today to lock in a foreign exchange rate for its expected 1.25 million MYR in sales. This means the company agreed to exchange 1.25 million MYR using the forward rate on January 1st when April 1 arrives.

Scenario 3: Another option for the company is to spend the foreign currency and avoid any currency exchange. Because it is a manufacturing company, raw materials are always needed.

Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:

  • Foreign Exchange Calculations: Determine the profitability of the international business by using foreign exchange calculations for the first and second scenarios.
  • Spend or Save: Discuss what you would need to consider when determining if the company should buy raw materials with the foreign currency in an effort to avoid foreign exchange risk and whether this is a viable option for the company.
  • Conclusion: After determining the result for each scenario, explain the importance to a company’s financial results of considering foreign exchange risk.
  • Guidelines for Submission
  • Submit this assignment as a 250- to 300-word Microsoft Word document. Sources should be cited according to APA style.

Did you know locking your doors

(Write a 250 word summary, no works cited)

In the “Did You Know” section at the beginning of Ch. 9 of your textbook, it says, “Simple things like locking our doors, hiding our purses and wallets under the car seat, not flashing money in public, and avoiding places that make us feel unsafe are known as routine precautions. These small behaviors probably prevent more crime than police, courts, and corrections put together.”

Do you agree or disagree with the statement? What statistical data or experiments could be used to support your argument? Now apply the same argument to the workplace. Does the same logic apply? Last, when looking at your arguments, are you using the same logic of situational theory or any other criminological philosophies or theories covered in this course?

1. Describe interdisciplinary collaborative care

Describe interdisciplinary collaborative care

Think back to your most recent time in the clinical setting when another discipline (respiratory, physical therapy, nutrition, occupational therapy) was utilized.

Describe a form of interdisciplinary collaborative care you’ve seen on your current assigned clinical or work site. Then have a discussion about the following questions:

  • Who coordinated that care? What was the nurse’s role in ascertaining that the care was provided?
  • Was the patient’s outcome met? How or why not? What would you, a novice nurse-leader, have done differently to achieve the patient’s goals?
