Explain the HBM and the DHIM to John and justify why any of those two models would be appropriate for his studies.   Discuss what possible methodologies he would use to investigate and try to understand the role of any of these models.

Essay

Scenario:

John is a doctoral candidate who is interested in researching the role of cultural beliefs and behaviors on healthcare decision making, especially from the perspective of the individual, about their health condition. John’s sample consisted of a diverse population of persons from Africa, Central America, Asia, and the United States. He was contemplating on using the Health Belief Model (HBM) or the Diffusion Health Innovations Model (DHIM) as the conceptual framework for his research. However, he is having issues aligning any of the models with his studies. Assuming you are supervising John:

  1. Explain the HBM and the DHIM to John and justify why any of those two models would be appropriate for his studies.
  2. Discuss what possible methodologies he would use to investigate and try to understand the role of any of these models.
  3. What ethical concerns should John have regarding the participation of human subjects in a study of this nature?
  4. Based on the results, John intends to improve the health condition of a community comprising a  diverse population demographic. Describe the challenges one would face in improving health for a population and implement a preventative strategy.

Write a 2-3  pages paper addressing the items above with at least six peer-reviewed references written in APA format. Your references must be peer-reviewed less than five years old.

Position Paper
The Assignment:
For this assignment you’ll identify an issue that relates to one of our topic clusters and analyze
that issue. Next, you’ll want to develop your own view—your position, the nuanced perspective
that you bring to the conversation. To do this you’ll need to understand others’ perspectives on
the issue, summarizing and analyzing their arguments to have a strong sense of the larger
questions at play.
Starting Out:
The cluster of readings for the topics can be found on Moodle. Definitely spend some time
reading and annotating these texts with an open mind. In your essay, you might engage one of
the readings directly to agree or disagree with it. However, the strongest thesis statements will
be nuanced, offering your own specific perspective on the topic. Often this means going beyond
agreeing or disagreeing with someone else. Important issues have layers, and you’ll want to
consider how the authors of the readings engage or don’t engage layers of the issue that you
think are vital. What have they overemphasized, misunderstood, or forgotten?
We’ve explored several articles related to the topic clusters you can choose from. In thinking
about the two articles you’ll use for your paper, you might begin by asking these questions of
each potential text:
1) What is the issue (or issues) in this piece?
2) What position is this author taking on that issue?
3) What is my position on that same issue (or issues)?
4) Why is that my position?
5) What do I have to say about it?
Then, consider the readings together. Make a list of the issues that come up in both, noting
how each author engages with them. What are the ways they discuss the issue alike? Where do
they differ? What makes them different? Is the difference significant? How and why is it
significant? What trends or patterns do you notice across the articles? Which perspectives are
represented in the readings? Which perspectives are missing? Questions such as these will lay
the groundwork for approaching this project.
Reminders:
Your essay should offer your nuanced perspective on this topic, integrate at least two sources,
and provide appropriate evidence. Here are some things to keep in mind as you write. In this
essay, you should:
● Clearly present the topic and identify the issue and its context
● Provide a clear and nuanced thesis that frames your essay and reveals your position
● Develop your thesis with logical reasoning and substantial evidence from the two texts
you’ve chosen to synthesize.
● Make clear why this issue matters (what’s the “so what?”)

For this Discussion, you will examine the impact that various contemporary issues have on families. Although you will consider issues that relate to both couples and families, you will focus on the family impact in order to understand the unique expression of these issues in a family setting.

Discussion: Contemporary Issues Facing Families

Consider an issue in society today that influences family dynamics, such as internet gambling, internet pornography, cyber infidelity, or another current issue that was not influential 10 years ago. Take into account how the issue impacts members of the family across generational lines, including children, parents, grandparents, and others.

For this Discussion, you will examine the impact that various contemporary issues have on families. Although you will consider issues that relate to both couples and families, you will focus on the family impact in order to understand the unique expression of these issues in a family setting.

Please consider issues that are exclusive to couples and families, (cyber infidelity, pornography and gaming addiction, the influence of social media), and examine the potential effects on those involved. You are encouraged to select an issue that may be a challenge for you.

To Prepare:

  • Search the Walden Library and select a recent peer-reviewed research article, within the last five years, that discusses a contemporary issue impacting families. Optional and required reading material from the course cannot be used for this final question. Keep in mind everything that you have learned (i.e., ethics, culture, theory) in your search for an appropriate contemporary issue.
  • In your search, consider a contemporary issue affecting couples or families that you think may be a challenge for you. Be mindful of issues related to culture, diversity, social change, LGBT families and adoption, unique needs of military families, internet infidelity, gambling, technology, interracial or intercultural challenges in couples, changing sociocultural definitions of family, or some other specific issue facing a unique group or demographic.
  • Addiction, infidelity, divorce, domestic violence and child abuse are not new issues and have been studied for many years, so for this discussion, they are not considered a contemporary issue. However, if the issue has a contemporary component to it, it would be acceptable. For example, if the research is about social media or technology and infidelity that would be appropriate.
By Day 3

Post the issue you selected from the literature and why you believe it is a significant issue for couples or families in today’s society. Be sure to include all cultural, social, ethical, and legal considerations relevant in your example, as well as the impact on the couple or family system. Explain what will be challenging for you and how you will address your challenge. Keep in mind, this forum is to discuss with your colleagues the potential challenges you will face in your work with couples and families dealing with contemporary issues. There are no right or wrong answers for this post. Please provide the full citation for the article you selected.

Note: Please attach your article at the bottom of your post to share with your colleagues.

Unit 2 Discussion: Identity Theft (ACC315 Fraud Prevention & Examination)

Identity theft refers to all types of crimes in which someone wrongfully obtains and uses another person’s personal data in some way that involves fraud deception, typically for economic gain.

A classic example of identity theft is a bank fraud that occurs when the fraudster obtains a loan from a financial institution by impersonating someone else. The criminal pretends to be the victim by presenting an accurate name, address, birth date, or other information that the lender requires as a means of establishing identity. The lender has no easy way to discover that the person is pretending to be the victim, especially if an original, government-issued id can’t be verified (as is the case in online, mail, telephone, and fax-based transactions). The criminal keeps the money from the loan, the financial institution is never repaid, and the victim is wrongly blamed for defaulting on a loan s/he never authorized.

Other examples include:

  • Going on spending sprees using      the victim’s credit and debit card account numbers to buy      “big-ticket” items like computers that they can easily sell.
  • Opening a new credit card account, using your      name, date of birth and SSN. When the fraudster uses the credit card and      doesn’t pay the bills, the delinquent account is reported on your credit      report.
  • Calling your credit card issuer      and, pretending to be you, ask to change the mailing address on your      credit card account. The imposter then runs up charges on your account.      Because your bills are being sent to the new address, it may take some      time before you realize there’s a problem.
  • Open a bank account in your      name and write bad checks on that account.
  • File for bankruptcy under your      name to avoid paying debts they’ve incurred under your name, or to avoid      eviction.
  • Give your name to the police      during an arrest. If they’re released from police custody, but don’t show      up for their court date, an arrest warrant is issued in your name.

1. What controls can one incorporate to prevent identity theft?

2. Which of these do you utilize?

3. Have you or someone you know ever been a victim of identity theft? If so, describe.

Unit 2 DB: EPS (ACC305 Analysis of Financial Statements)

  1. What does a company’s EPS mean      to you?
  2. After locating their EPS, would      you be interested in investing in this company? Why or why not?

Unit 2 Discussion: Ethics Case 10–8 Research and development ● LO10–8 (ACC340 Intermediate Accounting II)

Mayer Biotechnical, Inc., develops, manufactures, and sells pharmaceuticals. Significant research and development (R&D) expenditures are made for the development of new drugs and the improvement of existing drugs. During 2024, $220 million was spent on R&D. Of this amount, $30 million was spent on the purchase of equipment to be used in a research project involving the development of a new antibiotic. The equipment likely will be used on only this one project.

The company president has asked the controller to make every effort to increase 2024 earnings because in 2025 the company will be seeking significant new financing from both debt and equity sources. “I guess we might use the equipment in other projects later,” the controller wondered.

Required:

Assuming that the equipment was purchased at the beginning of 2024, how much should the controller record for research and development expense in 2024?

1. What amount would be reported for research and development expense in 2024 under the controller’s alternative assumption that the equipment will be used for other projects evenly over five years?

2. Does the need for financing justify the controller making the alternative assumption in requirement 2?

Review the performance dashboard metrics in the Dashboard and Health Care Benchmark Evaluation media simulation, as well as relevant local, state, and federal laws and policies. Consider the metrics that are falling short of the prescribed benchmarks.

In the era of health care reform, many of the laws and policies set forth by government at the local, state, and federal levels have specific performance benchmarks related to care delivery outcomes that organizations must achieve. It is critical for organizational success that the interprofessional care team is able to understand reports and dashboards that display the metrics related to performance and compliance benchmarks.

Maintaining standards and promoting quality in modern health care are crucial, not only for the care of patients but also for the continuing success and financial viability of health care organizations. In the era of health care reform, health care leaders must understand what quality care entails and how quality in health care connects to the standards set forth by relevant federal, state, and local laws and policies. An understanding of relevant benchmarks that result from these laws and policies, and how they relate to quality care and regulatory standards, is also vitally important.

Health care is a dynamic, complex, and heavily regulated industry. For this reason, you will be expected to constantly scan the external environment for emerging laws, new regulations, and changing industry standards. You may discover that as new policies are enacted into law, ambiguity in interpretation of various facets of the law may occur. Sometimes, new laws conflict with preexisting laws and regulations, or unexpected implementation issues arise, which may warrant further clarification from lawmakers. Adding partisan politics and social media to the mix can further complicate understanding of the process and buy-in from stakeholders.

Instructions

Choose one of the following two options for a performance dashboard to use as the basis for your evaluation:

Option 1: Dashboard Metrics Evaluation Simulation

Use the data presented in the Dashboard and Health Care Benchmark Evaluation multimedia activity as the basis for your evaluation.

Note: The writing that you do as part of the simulation could serve as a starting point to build upon for this assessment.

Option 2: Actual Dashboard

Use an actual dashboard from a professional practice setting for your evaluation. If you decide to use actual dashboard metrics, be sure to add a brief description of the organization and setting that includes:

  • The size of the facility that the dashboard is reporting on.
  • The specific type of care delivery.
  • The population diversity and ethnicity demographics.
  • The socioeconomic level of the population served by the organization.

Note: Ensure your data are Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliant. Do not use any easily identifiable organization or patient information.

To complete this assignment:

  1. Review the performance dashboard metrics in the Dashboard and Health Care Benchmark Evaluation media simulation, as well as relevant local, state, and federal laws and policies. Consider the metrics that are falling short of the prescribed benchmarks. Note: The writing you do as part of the simulation could serve as a starting point to build upon for this assignment.
  2. Write a report for a senior leader that communicates your evaluation of current organizational or interprofessional team performance, with respect to prescribed benchmarks set forth by government laws and policies at the local, state, and federal levels. In addition, advocate for ethical and sustainable action to address benchmark underperformance and explain the potential for improving the overall quality of care and performance, as reflected on the performance dashboard.
  3. Make sure your report meets the Report Requirements listed below. Structure it so that it will be easy for a colleague or supervisor to locate the information they need, and be sure to cite the relevant health care policies or laws when evaluating metric performance against established benchmarks.

Report Requirements

The report requirements outlined below correspond to the scoring guide criteria, so be sure to address each main point. Read the performance-level descriptions for each criterion to see how your work will be assessed. In addition, be sure to note the requirements for document format and length and for supporting evidence.

  • Evaluate dashboard metrics associated with benchmarks set forth by local, state, or federal health care laws or policies.
    • Which metrics are not meeting the benchmark for the organization?
    • What are the local, state, or federal health care policies or laws that establish these benchmarks?
    • What conclusions can you draw from your evaluation?
    • Are there any unknowns, missing information, unanswered questions, or areas of uncertainty where additional information could improve your evaluation?
  • Analyze the consequence(s) of not meeting prescribed benchmarks and the impact this has on health care organizations or teams.
    • Consider the following examples:
      • Organizational mission and vision.
      • Resources.
        • Staffing.
        • Financial: Operational and capital funding.
        • Logistical considerations: Physical space.
        • Support services (any ancillary department that gives support to a specific care unit in the organization, such as pharmacy, cleaning services, dietary, et cetera).
      • Cultural diversity in the community.
      • Staff skills.
      • Procedures and processes.
    • Address the following:
      • What are the challenges that may potentially contribute to benchmark underperformance?
      • What assumptions underlie your conclusions?
  • Evaluate a benchmark underperformance in a heath care organization or interprofessional team that has the potential for greatly improving overall quality or performance.
    • Focus on the benchmark you chose to target for improvement. Which metric is underperforming its benchmark by the greatest degree?
    • State the benchmark underperformance that is the most widespread throughout the organization or interprofessional team.
    • State the benchmark that affects the greatest number of patients.
    • Include how this underperformance will affect the community that the organization serves.
    • Include the greatest opportunity to improve the overall quality of care or performance of the organization or interpersonal team and, ultimately, to improve patient outcomes, as you think about the issue and the current poor benchmark outcomes.
  • Advocate for ethical and sustainable action(s), directed toward an appropriate group of stakeholders, needed to address a benchmark underperformance.
    • Who would be an appropriate group of stakeholders to act on improving your identified benchmark metric?
    • Why should the stakeholder group take action?
    • What are some ethical actions the stakeholder group could take that support improved benchmark performance?
  • Organize content so ideas flow logically with smooth transitions.
    • Proofread your report, before you submit it, to minimize errors that could distract readers and make it more difficult for them to focus on the substance of your evaluation and analysis.
  • Support main points, assertions, arguments, conclusions, or recommendations with relevant and credible evidence.
    • Be sure to apply correct APA formatting to source citations and references.
Report Format and Length

Format your report using APA style.

  • Use the APA Style Paper Tutorial [DOCX] to help you in writing and formatting your report. Be sure to include:
    • A title and references page. An abstract is not required.
    • Appropriate section headings.
  • Your report should be 3–5 pages in length, not including the title page and references page.
Supporting Evidence

Cite 4–6 credible sources from peer-reviewed journals or professional industry publications to support your analysis of challenges, evaluation of potential for improvement, and your advocacy for ethical action.

Portfolio Prompt: You may choose to save your report to your ePortfolio.
