I used to work for the Developmental Evaluation Center (DEC) at Children’s Hospital in Boston.  We saw quite a few adults with moderate to severe disabilities (cerebral palsy, dual diagnoses of blindness and intellectual disabilities, etc) because they couldn’t find an adult provider who would take them as a patient.   What can be done to insure there is adequate healthcare for all?

This paper should be a minimum of 5 pages and maximum of 8.  This does not include a properly formatted title page and references (an abstract is not needed at this stage in paper development).  Make sure to include your own original, testable research hypothesis that derives from the work you’ve reviewed.

 

Proper citation is key.  Make sure you are citing in-text each idea that comes from an outside source using APA style (Author Last Name, Year) – do not include full author names, names of articles, or names of journal titles.

Assignment: Quantitative Research Study Critique

As you may recall, evidence-based practice relies on best available evidence, which is drawn from current research studies. But, just because a research study is published, it doesn’t mean it is without flaw. Social workers must make value determinations every time they interact with research they may apply to practice.

Imagine that you are a practicing social worker and encounter a question, issue, or challenge on which you need to learn more. You search in the social work literature and find a quantitative study on the topic. As you read it, you ask critical questions, closely analyze how the study was framed and conducted, monitor efforts toward validity, and ultimately decide whether to integrate the information in practice.

  1. Your topic – Lead with a sentence or two on what your topic is, generally, and why it is important. Are certain groups or types of people important to your topic – what are they and why. Follow with a sentence or two describing your hypothesis.

 

  1. What experimental study have you found that acts as a good example of your idea and future plans for research on this topic. Describe the study here. Include things like their hypothesis, what sample they used and how many, the IV and DV in question, the analysis they conducted, and what their results suggest.  Be sure to include how you believe this study will support your own future research.
