This week students will complete the following components of the methods section for the research study proposal.

  • Participants—Population or Sample: Your research study may include the entire population or a subset or sample of the population. If your study will utilize a sample, you must choose the appropriate sampling method. (If you wish to review sampling methods, you may revisit the Types of Sampling Multimedia (Links to an external site.) from Week 1.) Describe the sampling method (i.e., random, systematic, multi-stage cluster sampling, stratified, convenience sampling, snowball sampling, or other) in your research study. If you are using a sample, also include the rationale for utilizing the sampling method you propose. If you will use an experimental or quasi-experimental method, explain how each individual will be assigned to each group.
  • Procedure: Describe the precise procedures used in conducting this research study (i.e., exactly what you will do in the study). It should be clear enough so that anyone could replicate the study. In other words, clearly explain to the reader how you will collect the data.
  • Instruments in the Study Design: Identify and describe the instrument used to collect data in your research study. If you are conducting a survey or interview, include a minimum of seven questions you will ask.
